Clean energy is part of mankind’s heritage, and it will only grow into more of an indisputable source of income as our future unfolds. Anyone dealing with photovoltaic panels knows there are real practical issues to manage, and this is where Easy PV comes in.

Easy PV

e-PV: Thermal Monitoring & Fault Detection

Built by solar wholesaler Midsummer, this solar design software helps a maintainer monitor PV plant activity through a high-accuracy system that pairs a GNSS receiver with GNSS positioning, an atomic sensor, and a dedicated computer running a computer algorithm to read thermal images.

This whole setup, called e-PV, gives plant owners a cost-effective service and helps catch reversible processes before they turn into bigger maintenance headaches on the PV plant.

3D Roof Modeling & Shading Analysis

Beyond monitoring, Easy PV also builds 3D models of residential buildings and commercial buildings, mapping out complex roofs, extensions, and obstructions such as a nearby building or overhanging trees.

These visualisations show shade and shading across every month of the year, right down to the day, and then generate MCS-compliant analysis with full shading factor values so that PV arrays and photovoltaic arrays sit exactly where they perform best.

Speedy PV: Dashboard & Account Management

Users manage all of this from their pro account settings, where a configuration dashboard opens a new tab for a feature called Speedy PV, adding even more value to the equipment already tracking photo voltages and efficiency on site.

GNSS/Thermal Monitoring

Easy PV’s monitoring side leans heavily on GNSS data, with an accuracy receiver tracking position and positioning across every panel on site. This work supports the wider business model behind the tool, one built through the affiliation of installers and professionals working toward shared main targets in the point market.

The system studies optical images and thermal images side by side with a thermograph to detect the effective model that needs to be replaced, keeping PV plant maintenance running smoothly and cost-effectively throughout every check.

This same process supports localisation, giving the tool room to grow its penetration across new regions and markets. Compatible factors affecting efficiency get flagged early, so periodic checks stay useful, construction teams get improved time to plan repairs, and the solution holds up season after season.

3D Design Feature

The 3D design feature for Easy PV went live for public access on a Tuesday, 24 January, and built on work that started when the software relaunched in September 2021.

Andy Rankin, managing director at Midsummer, said the update gives users a way to save time on their designs while also acting as a more persuasive tool when pitching projects to homeowners.

Roof Modelling & System Sizing

The tool handles complex roofs to scale, places obstacles like chimneys, rooflights, and vent covers, and autofills roofs with a choice of panels.

It sizes inverters to suit the array and recommends a string configuration, works out cable voltage drop calculations, and produces a full bill of materials alongside an established offering for the chosen mounting system.

Performance, Financials & Reporting

Users also get access to live stock and pricing, sunpath diagrams, lifetime system performance calculations, homeowner energy consumption figures, and financial payback calculations, plus a customer quote, report creation with an installer logo, a schematic for the system, and structural calculations covering weight, wind, and snow loads.

Compliance, Storage & Market Growth

The tool even handles autocompletion of DNO forms and offers unlimited project storage for every job on file. All of this comes as the solar sector across the UK keeps growing, with Midsummer now trading at three times its sales volumes from a year before.

Speedy PV Setup Steps

Setting up Speedy PV starts inside your pro account, where you turn on the configuration dashboard and open the new tab it creates. Before you can access any of these settings, you’ll need to complete the easy pv login using your registered credentials to reach your dashboard.

From there, you enter your web domain and your contact details, including your email address and phone number, before customising the appearance and colour scheme using a hex format code so the tool looks fully bespoke on your site.

Email & SMTP Configuration

You can add an email signature with your name or company name, set up SMTP credentials the same way you would for the Easy PV Pro e-signing feature, and add extra email addresses to be copied in on updates.

Pricing Rules, Hardware & Scanning

On the pricing side, you turn on automatic pricing rules and choose between lookup tables or markup, then switch on automatic roof scanning so roofs get scanned and drawn out for homeowners automatically.

From here, pick your preferred panel range and your preferred inverters, read through the terms of use, and accept the billing conditions.

Trial, Testing & Activation

Midsummer wholesale and pro customers get a two-month free trial, and once everything is confirmed, you can preview a test page to see how it looks on a website or mobile device. If you ever get logged out, simply repeat the easy PV login process to pick up right where you left off.

To go live, work through the final checklist: click enable Speedy PV, then paste the given HTML head block code and the second piece of code into the body of your web page, at the exact location where you want the tool to sit.

FAQs

What is Easy PV and how does it help with solar plant maintenance?

Easy PV is a solar design and monitoring software developed by Midsummer. It combines a high accuracy GNSS receiver with thermal imaging and computer algorithms to help maintainers monitor PV plant activity, detect faulty equipment, and keep maintenance cost-effective.

What does the 3D design feature in Easy PV offer?

The 3D design feature lets users build 3D models of residential and commercial buildings, including complex roofs, extensions, and obstructions like nearby buildings and trees. It auto-generates MCS-compliant analysis with shading factor values, helping installers plan PV arrays more accurately.

How do I enable Speedy PV in my Easy PV account?

You need to go to your pro account settings in Easy PV and turn on the configuration dashboard. This opens a new Speedy PV tab where you can enter your web domain, contact details, pricing rules, preferred panels and inverters, and complete the go-live checklist.

Is there a free trial available for Speedy PV?

Yes, Midsummer offers a two-month free trial of Speedy PV for their wholesale and pro customers, giving users time to test the tool before committing.

Who can I contact for help setting up Easy PV or Speedy PV?

For any setup issues or questions, users can reach out to Midsummer’s support team directly on website page.
